EXPORTING WRITTEN CONTENT (1).

EPISODE ONE.

"A NEW FREELANCING ZONE". This is what I have always told anyone I introduce to the volatile industry. Sometimes I meet with professionals, and they ask what I do, and am like…. where do I start from - Just to tell them, "I export written content." Yes, exporting written content.

For you to understand better, I will give two scenarios: -

Scenario 1.

Suppose you are in University pursuing your undergraduate or postgraduate. On top of that, you participate in the music club or choir. Still, you take part in basketball, not to mention, you play cards and hang around with friends.

Then, one fine morning (Let me use Thursday), the philosophy lecturer issues an assignment to be submitted the following evening (Friday). Mark you, on Friday you are to represent the school's basketball department in a friendly match, mandatory attendance. This means that you only have Friday to work on the assignment and submit it the same day. But it's on that very day that you have a tight schedule. What options do you have?

One, you can trans-night and wrap up the assignment. Two, fail to deliver and get an "E", "F" OR "W" if applicable. Three, tell a classmate to help out, at a small fee. Four, pay the cyber guy to do the work for you. Five, pay an expert, in the same field as you, to do the assignment—all to deliver in time. You and I know that spending a whole night typing is hectic. Therefore, the expert route sounds fantastic. You pay an expert US$10 and advise that the assignment should be delivered by Friday 1500HRS - To be sent to your email so that you can upload.

The assignment gets done, diligently. Interestingly, at the end of the semester/term, it's a pass. Huhaaaa...

What will make you not do the same when you are playing cards or attending to a tight work schedule?

Scenario 2.

It's 1300HRS and you looking forward to a long, restful afternoon. Then your friend calls. He/She needs help with some assignment: "Discuss the story of mosses in three pages only." With an empty wallet, hungry and no other class, you promise to help. (This is a task you can check the internet and summarize before the sun sets.). Your friend is willing to pay you US$25 but you bargain for US$30. Will you not rush for some toffee (sweets) and get yourself glued to the screen, keyboard and mouse?

Yester, it was Max. Today, Kim has a date with Lisa. So, he drops you an email describing the assignment – In 300 words,  discuss the emergence, spread and effects of COVID-19. Please deliver tomorrow at 2200HRS. US $10 (KES 1000) will be deposited to your Mpesa account upon assignment delivery. Thank you.

Now, suppose you learn of a site where lots of Max' and Lisa' post assignments. Will you not camp there every day? Of course, YES! This goes to the extent of overlooking a formal job offer to concentrate on such a venture. (I, mean, if writing is your thing.)

Exactly, that's what writers/content_exporters/academic_researchers do. They are always ready to take up a task. Regardless of pages, topic or even deadline. Gradually, one becomes an expert. It's worth noting that there is always a company that acts as an intermediary. They pay writers. But these writers are not their employees – Partners instead.

Most of the clients are from Asia, Middle-East, Europe and America. Your work as a "writer" is to deliver their taste. Some of these guys are stable financially or could be working, or they come from wealthy families – No wonder they afford to pay people to do their tasks/assignments, either from work or school. However, the majority are students.

Remember, for full-time writers. They can be anywhere – Freedom! One can wrap up a task or rather work from home, in the village, on a train or even up in the sky – Not to mention, even from the shore or an island. You only need stable internet, laptop, concentration, power supply and writing/research tactics.

You have a clue now? Perfecto! In the next episode, I'll be sharing the terms of engagement.
